Are you looking to find a role in the fitness industry? Whether you are looking to becoming a class instructor or work as a personal trainer, here are the first steps that you can take.

Do the research

The first step on your path to becoming a fitness instructor is to do the necessary research. You need to establish whether this is the job that you really want to understand whether it is worth putting in the time to create a career. Working in fitness can be extremely rewarding and fun, but it can come with a particular set of challenges such as unusual working hours.

There are many different roles in the fitness industry ranging from personal trainers carrying out private sessions to class instructors working for leisure centres. You need to work out which of these is going to be most appropriate for you, as there are various different paths that can take you into these roles.

Listen to fitness instructor podcasts, watch YouTube videos and read books on the fitness industry to ascertain where your interests and goals lie. This can help you to understand what you need to do next.

Get the training

To become a fitness professional, you need to get qualified. This is why it is important first to establish what kind of role you are looking for in the industry. There are many forms and levels of training available from pathways into personal training to specific qualifications in circuit training, instructing, and much more.

Remember that you should also look into additional forms of training that complement your role such as in nutrition and well-being. As well as providing you with knowledge, these look excellent on your CV when you come to apply for roles.

Find experience

Next, you need to gain some experience. It is important to do this anyway that you can. For example, if you are looking to become a personal trainer you can offer some sessions for free to the first 10 people who sign up with you. Speak with friends and family about providing them with sessions free of charge as you build up your confidence.
