This is actually a brief article I wrote back in 2018 but I have decided to republish it again this month for obvious reasons. This is no doubt going to be a challenging time for us all over the next few weeks or months but we all stand a much better chance of getting through it all if we work together, love each other and save the fighting for our invisible enemy.
Where I train my clients I have a poster directly in front of the squat rack with a poem on that I often read when I’m struggling through a workout or just through life in general!
Reading the words and thinking about their meaning has helped me get myself out of a tough spot more than once. If you have not read it then please do and think about the words.
I hope they inspire you as they have me in the past. I do not know who the author is so apologies for not giving credit where credit is due but the poem is called ‘You Must not Quit’.
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It might be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that You Must Not Quit.
Stay active, Stay safe, and don’t you QUIT! 💪🤟👊
