Last week I shared maxim number 7 with you: Be Tenacious and Resilient
As promised here is this weeks maxim for you.
Many years ago, I was sitting in front of my GP filling out a questionnaire stuck on the question, have you ever had suicidal thoughts.
When I think back to those days, they seem like another lifetime.
I read self-help books and meditated, anything that might make me feel happy again. I even questioned whether I had a chemical imbalance and that my mind was broken and incapable of feeling happy.
I realised that I was trying to manage my symptoms and not addressing the cause of my unhappiness.
Adding all those self-help positives to my life did nothing compared to removing the negatives.
Once I removed the cause of my unhappiness, I started to feel myself again. I felt like it happened overnight.
My life is so different now, and I feel so grateful to have found the right path.
Once I was back on track, I made a pact with myself to never endure something for any length of time that makes me unhappy. It could be a relationship or a job.
If it makes me sad, I’m throwing in the towel.
Life is too short.
Don’t get me wrong. There is a difference between challenges and unhappiness.
Challenges can feel stressful, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and that light is usually a reward.
However, if I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, I know something needs to change.
Discovering the cause is not easy. It certainly wasn’t for me.
Talking to others can help you figure out the cause of unhappiness. Check out time to talk. Their aim is to support communities to have more mental health conversations.
Where possible, I recommend removing the negatives in your life and letting the true you blossom.
