I’m up for a few Xmas over-indulgences as much as the next person, however if we go too crazy in December we have to work so damn hard in January.
The average person consumes over 7000 calories on Christmas day alone, (that’s 2 lbs of fat) add that to all the other days of snacking on quality street, mince pies, and pretzels, and you could easily gain a stone in weight in just a few days. I know, I know ‘Festive Fat Fighting’ sounds ridiculous if not impossible but before you say I’m being a ‘hum bug’ please read on.
I’m not suggesting you cut out all your favourite festive treats over Christmas, I’m just suggesting that you refrain from going quite so crazy this year. We are all highly motivated at the start of the new year so that energy would be far better spent trying achieve a new level of fitness, or sculpting a physique that you have never had but always wanted. Instead of desperately trying to remove the weight you have gained just from the Christmas period.
So, here are my three top tips on how to enjoy Christmas without having to pay the price in January:
Drink plenty of water with each meal and between meals. Choose sparkling water with a slice of lemon or lime if you want something a little more interesting. This will help you feel full and prevent you from over eating. Staying hydrated will also help you metabolise fat.
Not only does over eating leave you feeling uncomfortable and sick, it is guaranteed to increase your fat storage. Try eating slowly and opt for eating your vegetables and lean meats first.
Don’t think that exercise is a waste of time because your not eating as well as you normally would. Exercise will be helping to reduce the amount of fat that is stored around your tummy, bum and thighs. Put it off until the New Year and you will have to work twice as hard just to lose your festive fat. You don’t have to go to the gym. There are lots of fun ways you can exercise. Take the family out for walks, get involved in the wii games, dance, Make it fun but just keep moving.
Don’t forget Xmas should be about connecting with others, sharing, kindness, and love, not gluttony!
Have a very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year 🙂
